Candida is a visual artist who captures and carries the importance of the environment and sense of the sublime into her artwork. Expressing intuitively and spontaneously, she creates pieces of art where each brushstroke translates a testament to the boundless beauty surrounding her. Her art pieces embody the junction between figurative and semi-abstract style based mainly on floral and landscape themes, hoping to give the viewer a way of seeing ourselves, grounding, and well-being.
Born in Mozambique, and now living and working in Belgium, Candida and her family have spent over 35 years living and working in various countries. She has 6 years of formal training in visual arts and art history at the Ecole des Arts de Braine – L’Alleud in Belgium. She believes that this extraordinary cross-cultural experience has enriched her artistic expression.
Nature’s complexity serves as her greatest source of inspiration, influencing both her artistic essence and the forms she creates. From an early age, creativity has been integral to her life in a different way, as she explored different forms of expression, starting with textiles, and now currently in the visual arts, painting and sculpture.
Having also participated in numerous workshops & art classes in different countries where she also held some exhibitions and sold her art pieces. She considers the creative process to be a continuous learning experience, being open to experimentation allows the ideas to flow from within.
In her perspective, it is okay to embrace frustration in creative processes, it can be beneficial; as it encourages us to re-evaluate and enhance the structural elements of our artwork.
Candida is not confined to a single medium, tool, or style. Instead she thrives on experimentation and versatility. Her work spans the richness of mixed media to the precision of brush strokes on canvas. Using acrylics as her primary medium, she explores a wide range of techniques characterized by subtlety and thickness.
By incorporating materials like water-based inks, pastels, and charcoal, she achieves distinct and unique results with each medium.
Her artistic process involves seeking a balanced and ordered composition, utilizing intuitive and gestural movements to create and maintain her unique perspective. Sometimes, she doesn’t concentrate on a specific technique; instead, she views the painting process as a puzzle, where she discovers a boundless array of colors in an informal and playful manner.
At the heart of her creativity, she believes that immersion, emotional resonance, and the harmony of ideas significantly influence her artistic process, allowing extraordinary images to emerge.
She enjoys working on multiple paintings simultaneously as well, which allows her to convey mood and foster connections across her pieces. This approach leads to a more innovative and cohesive body of work.
The resulting cohesion enables the compositions to flow naturally, creating a sense of balance and unity that she strives to make visually pleasing. For some pieces, she interplays neutral-toned colors with vivid hues, adding delicate layers that reveal a symphony of elements—such as lighting, shadows, texture, and depth—harmoniously intertwined to create diverse effects and an inviting atmosphere.
